Reuse PDFs
Link one PDF to multiple resources to share content across your store efficiently.
Why reuse PDFs
Some documents apply to many pages:
- Return policy - Same for all products
- Size chart - Shared across clothing line
- Care guide - Used for entire collection
- Brand story - Featured on multiple pages
- Warranty info - Standard across product category
Upload once, link everywhere.
How to reuse a PDF
- Upload the PDF to your library
- Link it to the first resource
- Click Link PDF again
- Select a different resource
- Repeat for all resources that need it
One PDF, unlimited links.
Reuse across resource types
Link the same PDF to different types of resources:
Example: Company overview PDF
- Link to About page
- Link to Contact page
- Link to homepage
- Link to all product pages
All point to the same file.
Benefits of reusing
Storage efficiency - One file instead of many copies
Easy updates - Change the PDF once, updates everywhere
Consistency - Same information on all pages
Plan limits - One PDF counts as one toward your limit, no matter how many links
Update a reused PDF
When you update a PDF that's linked to multiple resources:
- Delete the old PDF (removes all links)
- Upload the new version
- Use bulk linking to restore all links at once
Or use the replace feature (if available in your plan).
Common reuse scenarios
Scenario 1: Size chart for clothing line
- Create one comprehensive size chart PDF
- Link to all clothing products
- Update once when sizes change
Scenario 2: Return policy
- Upload return policy PDF
- Bulk link to all products
- Update policy without re-linking
Scenario 3: Product line manual
- One manual covers entire product line
- Link to all products in that line
- Customers get same info regardless of variant
Reuse with template filtering
Combine reuse with templates for powerful control:
Example: Brand catalog PDF
- Link to all collections
- Set template filter to "collection.featured"
- Appears only on featured collection pages
One PDF, targeted visibility.
Track where PDFs are used
See all links for a PDF:
- Click the PDF in your library
- View Linked Resources section
- See every resource using this PDF
- Unlink from specific resources if needed
Limits on reusing
No limit on links - Link one PDF to as many resources as you want
No extra cost - Reused PDFs don't count multiple times toward limits
Performance - File is cached, so reusing doesn't slow your store
When not to reuse
Sometimes separate PDFs are better:
Different content - Product-specific manuals shouldn't be shared
Different audiences - B2B vs B2C might need different documents
Version control - If content needs to vary slightly by product
Template-specific - When documents need to match page layouts
Best practices
Name reusable PDFs clearly
- "Universal-Size-Chart.pdf" vs "Product-123-Sizes.pdf"
Document your links
- Keep notes on which PDFs are widely reused
- Track when you make updates
Plan updates carefully
- Remember one change affects many pages
- Test updates before going live
- Consider impact on all linked resources
Use bulk operations
- Bulk link for initial setup
- Bulk unlink if you need to remove everywhere
- Saves time vs. one-by-one linking
